“What is masked Aadhaar
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) offers a special Aadhaar version called a masked Aadhaar that residents can use to prevent Aadhaar from being misused by the wrong hands.
The masked version of the Aadhaar card adds an extra layer of security by showing only the last four digits while hiding the first eight.UIDAI had recently warned citizens to not share their Aadhaar numbers with any outside organisations for risk of misuse.
If a private organisation without a UIDAI user licence wants a copy of your Aadhaar, you can provide him your masked Aadhaar, which only exposes the last four digits of your Aadhaar number. However, the governement later withdrew the notification.
How to download masked Aadhaar?
- Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and select the ‘Login’ option.
- Click ‘Send OTP’ after entering your Aadhaar number and captcha code.
- An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked cellphone number, which you must input in the required form and then click ‘Login.’
- Select ‘Download Aadhaar’ from the ‘Services’ section.
- Select the option ‘Do you want a masked Aadhaar?’ under the ‘Review your Demographics
